Austrian Competences in Aeronautics Technology

Graz University of Technology - Institute of Materials Science and Welding

The Institute develops materials for aircraft structures and simulates the processing of materials for both aircraft structures and turbines. Furthermore, materials evolution during processing to both optimise processes and final mechanical properties are described. The Institute also focuses on the specific joining processes for aircraft parts.

Technologies and competences

Core competences are numerical (FEM) and physical (Gleeble 3800, dilatometer, etc.) process simulation, materials modelling (precipitations, grain structure), materials development (creep resistant steels) as well as joining and welding (friction stir welding, electron beam welding, etc.).
