Montanuniversität Leoben - Department of Physical Metallurgy and Materials Testing
The Department of Physical Metallurgy and Materials Testing is responsible for education of students in material science. In addition, it is one of the departments with the highest percentage of funded and contract R&D and operates research groups focusing on high-performance materials, materials testing and failure analysis, phase transformations, surface engineering and nanostructured materials.
Technologies and competences
Experimental methods of investigating phase equilibria and phase transformations by means of quenching and deformation dilatometry as well as differential scanning calorimetry. Phase characterisation studies using SEM, EBSD and TEM. Besides these well-established methods, complementary techniques are also used such as in-situ diffraction investigations with neutron and synchrotron X-ray radiation.
