CEST
CEST is Austria’s competence centre for electrochemical surface technology and operates as an innovation centre and trendsetter at the interface between science and industry. CEST was founded in 2008 as the successor to the ECHEM Competence Centre for Applied Electrochemistry as part of the Austrian competence centre programme called COMET. CEST is situated both in Wiener Neustadt (HQ) and in Linz.
Technologies and competences
The CEST competence centre concentrates on electrochemical surface technology and corrosion research as well as surface characterisation. Through the results of the research work, it is possible to develop innovative layer systems with optimised properties, like nano-crystalline layers. It is also possible to design the manufacturing of surfaces to be more cost-effective and environmentally friendly (e.g. replacement of Cr(VI)-based coatings). Another recent research topic is the surface metallisation of composite materials, especially for the aviation industry.
